1998-99 Aurora Man Advantage #18
Aurora is a new addition from Pacific. It features a 200 standard cards series and a six-card pack costs 3$. At 4 per 37 packs, the Atomic Laser Cuts is a pretty common insert. Man advantage on the other end is a bit rarer, with a 1 per 73 packs odd. Cubes is a funny insert. Unfortunately, the guy who shipped me the card cut it to place it in a toploader. Maybe one day I'll get another.
The main insert here is the Championship Fever. It comes in five versions. The gold one is one per pack, red is only was only available at Wal-Mart, silver is numbered to 250, Ice Blue is numbered to 100 and copper is the toughest one with only 20 copies.

Be A Player was a pricy set back in the day. At 7$ for an eight-card pack, it's not that bad considering that you have an auto in each of them. Base card has a gold version, as well as the auto. Some players auto are short print (like Bure), and the gold version has a print run of only 50. The Press Release parallel of the base will be a tough one to get because they were available only to the members of the media.
This set has a lot of jersey cards. The first one is an all-stars piece with a print run of 100. Playoff jersey is also out of 100, but an auto version out of 10 copies exists, and this one will be tough to pull. I think the practice playoff jersey is a one-of-kind piece. I don't think any other companies put a practice piece on cardboard, which is cool. The playoff highlight insert closes the series.

Black Diamond is the first series to ever put a 1/1 parallel (Myriad 2). As usual, parallels are recognizable with the numbers of diamonds: single diamond (base), double diamond (numbered to 2000), triple diamond (numbered to 1000), and quadruple diamond (numbered to 100). Every insert is also numbered: Myriad is out of 1500, while Winning Formula (/2550) has a platinum version out of /51.

Bowman Best is a 150 card set with a retail price of 5$ for a six-card pack. The base card has a refractor version numbered to 400 (1 per 52 packs), and an atomic refractor parallel, numbered to 100. This one has a whooping odd of 1 per 1549 packs! Image fusion has the same pattern. The only thing that changes is the numbering (100 for the refractor and 25 for the atomic refractor).

Crown Royale is back in 1998-99, but not with all parallels like last year. The only one is the Limited Series, numbered to 99.
Donruss Elite
1998-99 Donruss Elite Promo #8
Donruss went out of business in 1998, so these cards were promos for the upcoming 1998-99 set. They are numbered to 2500, but numerous of them have a print run lower than this number. Some are believed, per Beckett, to be below 100.

The award for the dumbest parallel ever goes to Finest with the no protector. You have a 1 in 4 chance to find one in your pack, while you can just remove the peel... I don't count it in my collection. The refractor on the other hand is a 1 per 12 pack insert card. Double-sided mystery finest (1 per 36 packs) has a refractor version (1 per 144 packs), just like the Red Lighters (1 per 24 for the regular and 1 per 72 for the refractor version).

I put the base with the Chrome series, who cost 3$ for a four-card pack back in 1998. Even though the refractor parallel is a 1 per 12 insert, with a 242 card set, pulling the card you want is a tough cookie (1 in 2904 packs if you pulled it last!). Season's Best has an odd of 1 per 8 packs, while its refractor parallel is 1 per 24.

1998-99 Pacific Timelines #19
I'm glad that Pacific, for 1998-99 at least, slow down on the number of parallels. Only two are counted for the base card: red (Wal-Mart exclusive), and ice blue (1 per 73 packs). They are some interesting inserts in the lot. Cramer's Choice is the best example with its 1 per 721 packs odd! Dynagon Ice is quite common with four per box, but its Titanium Ice version is numbered to 99 copies. Gold Crown Die-Cuts (1 per 37 packs), Team Checklist (2 per 37 packs), and Timelines (1 per 181 packs), completes the series.

Can't believe that a Pacific product has only three cards! The red parallel is a Wal-Mart exclusive and was inserted at a rate of 4 per 37 packs. Ice blue is numbered to 67 sets.

It's rare that an insert has more parallels than base cards in Pacific, yet it's the case in this series. The 1 per 49 packs Championship Spotlight has three versions (green /50, red /10, and a one-of-one gold), while the base card has only two parallels (Wal-Mart exclusive red and Opening day /56). For the rest of the inserts, EQ Portraits (1 per 73 packs) has also a 1/1. Face to Face (1 per 145 packs), Online (4 per 37 packs), Planet Ice (4 per 37), and Prism (1 per 37 packs), completes the series. The hobby version of the Planet Ice is numbered to 25.

SP Authentic is a short series (135 cards, including the top prospects). Base cards have a Power Shift parallel numbered to 500. This is the first year of the sign of the times and right of the bat they put a rare gold version of the auto numbered to 10... The only insert is the Stat Masters, numbered to 500 copies.
